Hello and welcome!
If you are here it means you enjoyed our animated short: GLUED.
The film was our 3rd year film at Bezalel Academy of Art. Our first attempt at making a CG film. It took us 10 months to create from concept to final render. As students of animation we are always interested in the process of creating films. This is why we decided to show different parts of the process and give you a behind-the-scenes look at how we made the short. We hope this will help aspiring animators, students and animation enthusiasts get a feel for what it was like to create this film.
Thanks for visiting,

In the beginning...
As we said before, the GLUED CREW consists of 4 animation students (and super-buddies):

3rd year is when students have to decide what form of animation they specialize in (traditional, stop motion, CG). We all chose CG animation and when the year began we received the brief/subject for our film: games. And well... the rest just happened after that. we decided to work together because it would be insane to try and make your first CG short by yourself. It was a very long and demanding process (10 months) but in the end it was worth it... and as you will see throughout the blog - we learned alot!

STORYBOARD
So here is the ORIGINAL storyboard. Not the final version of it, but the first version. All in all it took us about a month and a half from script to board. And as you can see, it's quite different from the final version of the movie. The storyboard changed about 3 times after this version and eventually evolved into the ANIMATIC which we will show next.

ANIMATIC
So after we felt the storyboard was as accurate as it could be we decided to put it in motion. We started working on an in-depth animatic so we could get a feel for how the film would be. we tried to be as accurate as possible - spending hours over the tiniest detail! It took a lot of blood sweat and tears but in the end we had something that really showed us how the film would feel.

COLOR SCRIPT
Here is the color script we developed for the film. We really tried to focus on the mood and feel of each scene - thinking what type of emotion do we want to express here. The final result was great and was a life-saver later on while working on the actual lighting for the film.

Character Sculptures
Before going 3D we sculpted our character designs in clay. It has a more natural feel to it and plus its fun to work with some real material for a change. After that we moved on to Zbrush.

Deleted family photos
You may have noticed that there are many family photos scattered throughout the house. Here are some photos that didn't make the cut... we felt they would be hard to read quickly from afar. It was hard to cut them - but in animation you have to kill your "babies" every once and a while...
